A Little History!!

Since there a lot more visitors to our blog than when we started, I wanted to give a little history on our family and our journey to adoption.

Joe and I were married in 2000. It took us several years of infertility and a trip to a fertility clinic to get pregnant with our first daughter, Josie. We found out prenatally that Josie would be born with a little something extra. She would have Down syndrome. Josie (Josette) has been nothing but a blessing in our lives. While her diagnosis is Down syndrome, that is far from her prognosis and she continues to amaze us every day. I am asked frequently if she is "high functioning" and I am not always sure how to answer this, because we try our best not to compare her to anyone but herself and as far as that's concerned, she is right where she is supposed to be!! LOL

Since we had so much difficulty getting pregnant with Josie, it never entered our minds that we would have an easy time getting pregnant after that. So imagine our surprise when Josie was only 5 months old, that we found out we were almost 2 1/2 months along with yet another child. Katie joined our family when Josie was only 13 months old. Then again on Josie's 2nd Birthday we discovered that we were pregnant yet again and Owen joined us in June of 2007.

At that time, Joe thought our family was complete, but I wasn't sure that I didn't want to have another baby. Then just before Christmas, when Owen was just 5 months old, we found out that we were again expecting. We were shocked and excited. The thought of having so many children so young, scared us a bit, but we were up for the challenge (We would have 4 children under the age of 4). Then in March, we miscarried. It was very difficult, however we had been through this three times before so it wasn't uncharted territory.

I had been thinking secretly about adoption since Josie was born. I had found Reece's Rainbow a short time after Josie's birth and would go look and snoop all over the site always thinking that it would never be in the cards for us to adopt. I talked to Joe about it a couple of times, but he wasn't really interested.

We started talking and praying about it more after most recent miscarriage. I was OK with not being pregnant again and I was at peace with the thought of adopting. I was ready, but Joe had his reservations. I am a "act now and think later" person and he is the total opposite of me. He was anxious about the money and where it would come from. We sat down and talked for a long time about it. I had fallen in love with a couple kiddo's from Reece's Rainbow and I wanted to know what Joe thought. He went back and forth. I finally told him that he needed to make a decision and I was OK with whatever he decided, but I wouldn't continue to look at these pictures and fall in love with the "picture and thoughts" of a child and then not act on it. I told him that money aside, is it something he wanted to do and he said without a doubt that we should adopt.

If God leads us to it, He will lead us through it! This has been our motto through our adoption process to this point. God is bigger than finances and we are going to bring Jacob home and let him know how much love our family has for him. Mommy, Daddy, Sisters and a Brother who already see his picture and just melt. He will complete our family and we feel so blessed to be given this opportunity!! I am so happy that God has entrusted this little boy to us and we feel so luck to walk with God in this Journey for if it wasn't for His Path, in His Time, we might not have been lead here to this place with our wonderful family!

God Bless!!!

That is an awesome history. I had to read it out loud to David. We thought we were crazy having 3 under 4, and you almost had 4 under 4. Kids are great, and you never know what is going to come out of their mouths. Sometimes it is kind of scary. Good luck. I have to get my check in the mail but I will do so soon.
Talk to you later.

Kicked in another donation for the matching drive, and posted a link on my Facebook profile. Hope the next couple weeks see a bunch of dollars rolling in!

Thank you for sharing that. I needed to catch up on who I was helping to bring home and the story behind you!

I'm excited for you and YEA for your home study papers!

What a great story! It is amazing how so many people on RR seem to have a similar background... what brought them to their adoption journey! Love the blog!!!
