Well today we lounged around this morning, then our friend Lena called and said she had some time to show us around. We met her down the street from our flat and we started walking. We walked forever and she explained everything. It was amazing. We saw Freedom Square, several Greek Orthodox Churches and ate at this wonderful Ukrainian Restaurant. It was so yummy!! I wanted to keep eating and eating. She explained a lot of things about the architecture and pointed out things from the time of Stalin. It was interesting to hear a person’s perspective who has lived here all her life. She is 27 years old and is a translator by trade. She speaks very good English and can’t remember a time when she didn’t know English. She speaks, German, Russian, Ukrainian and English. She knows some Spanish as well.
We walked around for probably 4-5 hours and just got back to our flat a few minutes ago. Here are some pictures of our day out.
Here is Freedom Square
This is the Central Post Office.. Not really exciting, but it is a beautiful building!
The most beautiful churches I have ever seen.
Here are Joe and I in front of the Opera House
Here is what I had for dinner… Chicken Kiev, Cabbage and Carrots (absolutely YUMMY), a cup of Borsht (which is much more yummy than I ever thought it would be!) and Blinki’s (I don’t know if that is the right word, but they are a pancake with cheese inside. YUM with Rasberry Preserve on top) and of course a Coca Cola Light! We all had about this much food, Joe, Lena and myself and it cost us just about $10.00 for all of us to eat! It is sometimes amazingly cheap here!
These next few pictures are from our balcony of our flat! We are on a beautiful street here but a very busy one. The trees that you see are EVERYWHERE here. It is their city tree and they are chestnut trees is what we were told! Very pretty as they are all in bloom right now.
This building is right across the street from our flat, but I don’t know if it is offices or flats, but it is beautiful.
Well we have our court date tomorrow morning and will hopefully be on a train tomorrow night to meet Jacob so that is exciting. Please pray that our SDA appointment goes well and we get his referral tomorrow afternoon. I will be taking pictures of the inside of our flat tomorrow (it is a disaster right now. lol) and then will post those in the next couple days. God Bless!!
