Hug your kids!!!

While surfing FB the past couple days…. there has been an onslaught of not so great news.

A friend of mine, Julie Kehm, her little guy Kai is in a medically induced coma at Texas Children’s Hospital due to an allergic reaction to a medication that he was taking for an ear infection.  I believe he is 4 and has developed SJS (Steven Johnson Syndrome) as a result.  If you google this condition, its awful.  It’s rare, but it can happen from any medication (RX or OTC) so please educate yourselves.  I had never heard of this until just today in reading Kai’s story.  Please keep them in your prayers.  He will more than likely get worse before he gets better, and getting worse, well it’s horrific to be quite honest!

Another cyber friend, Diane Roberts, and her son, Ryan are also in the hospital.  Ryan had heart surgery and things are not going well.  Not well at all.  The surgery was not a success and they have had to make some decisions that NO parent should EVER have to make for their child.  He is not even one yet, and more than likely won’t see his first birthday!  He did get to enjoy some things that his mom thought he might not get to experience.  He played with a puppy at the hospital, he got to ride a bike (with some help from mom) and he got to taste his first ever Banana Split.  Tomorrow night we are having banana splits for dinner (yes solely for dinner with nothing else).  We are going to enjoy them so much in Ryan’s name!

I saw another post from a friend of a friend that shared an obituary of an 11 month old.  She didn’t even get to enjoy her first birthday cake.

I guess what I am trying to say… don’t take your precious time with those you love for granted.  You never know… don’t keep putting off until tomorrow what you could do today with your kids or your family.  There will always be time to do laundry or dishes or clean the house and if something happened you might regret not doing some things with your kids.  We are making a summer bucket list… a list of things that I never got to do as a kid.. that we are going to do this summer.  The first being having banana splits for dinner tomorrow night.  I am not taking great care of my house like I used to do… we are spending every day possible this summer at the pool making memories.

When my kids grow up, they will remember the fun summers, and the adventures we had and won’t say… well we didn’t get to do that because my mom was too busy!!

Hug your kids a little tighter, play in the mud, dance in the rain, let your dishes sit and snuggle on the couch.  Whatever it is that you wish you could have done as a kid… DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
